Rejected by Koh Samui & The Monkey

This is a tale of bad customer service.

I went to Koh Samui and the Monkey today, intending to get some Red Curry to go. The restaurant was about 1/2 full--it was about 2pm--and a few people were at the front desk. The first two women were placing what I took to be a large order for take-out, most likely for their office. The group of three women in front of me had reservations (for a 1/2 empty restaurant) and were seated.

I waited.

And waited.

No one approached me. No employee in the half-full (that's a more positive spin, right?) restaurant bothered to acknowledge me, try to seat me, or ask what the hell I was doing just standing there.

After five minutes, I left. This was my first visit to Koh Samui. I'm not sure I'll ever go back.

Darling, the NERVE of them! They should have known just who you are and treated you accordingly! I'm going to call Gavin and see what I can do about shutting that tomaine trap down. I'd go right back to Nob Hill where you belong.

Roundly praised by critics, the Dining Room at the Ritz-Carlton manages to do everything right: magnificent decor, an excellent wine list, professional service and, oh, the food. The contemporary French menu bears an Asian touch, and its execution is without reproof. Representative of the fare are chilled Dungeness crab with mango and red onion compote, slow-roasted Japanese sole with lobster tortellini, and sancho peppercorn-crusted duck breast with kumquat glaze. Excellent wines and champagnes bring out the cuisine's welcome complexity, and artisanal cheeses and hand-made desserts allow guests to cap a meal as their tastes desire.
